Semi-Private Lessons

Two swimmers, one instructor. Semi-private lessons strike the sweet spot: near-private attention at a more accessible price point, plus the motivational boost that comes from swimming alongside a peer.

Perfect for siblings, friends, or swimmers at similar levels who feed off each other's energy. Each swimmer still gets a personalized experience β€” we never sacrifice quality for group convenience.

  • Max 2 swimmers per session
  • Works well for siblings or same-level friends
  • Peer motivation and shared learning
  • Same high standard of instruction as private

Frequently Asked Questions

How old does my child need to be to start lessons?
We welcome swimmers of all ages, typically starting around 3 years old for beginners. Younger children (6 months–3 years) can enjoy parent-tot sessions. Every swimmer is evaluated individually to find the best starting point.
What should we bring to lessons?
A swimsuit, towel, and goggles if your swimmer prefers them (we can provide if needed). For lessons at Simpkins Family Swim Center, the pool is a comfortable temperature year-round. Arrive 10 minutes early for the first lesson.
How many lessons until my child can swim independently?
This varies enormously by age, prior experience, and individual learning style. Most swimmers see meaningful progress within 4–8 lessons. We focus on building real skills and confidence rather than rushing through levels.
What makes adaptive swim different from regular lessons?
Adaptive swim uses the Swim Whisperer approach β€” gentle, patient, highly individualized instruction tailored to each swimmer's sensory, motor, and communication needs. We use visual supports, predictable routines, and celebration-focused teaching. There's no clinical pressure, just joyful progress.
Where exactly are lessons held?
All lessons are held at Simpkins Family Swim Center in Santa Cruz County. The facility features warm, accessible pools and ample parking. Exact address and directions are provided upon registration.
Can adults sign up for lessons too?
Absolutely. Adult swimmers are welcome in both private and semi-private formats. Whether you never learned, want to improve your technique, or are preparing for open water β€” we've got you.
